2019 Zinfandel

2019 Zinfandel
Description
VARIETAL. 100% ZinfandelVINEYARD. Picchetti Estate, Montebello.
WINEMAKING. This dry-farmed, ancient vine Zinfandel is a classic example of what low yields, quality fruit and minimum intervention during the vinification process can accomplish. Planted in 1882, these vines were the very first to be cultivated on Montebello. The Picchetti Brothers transitioned from grapes and winemaking to orchard farming during the dark days of Prohibition (1920-1933). However, they chose to retain this small 1-acre parcel because of the consistently high quality of wine that it produced. The vineyard is a gateway to ancient agriculture and we’re constantly learning from the clues the Picchetti Brothers left for us there. On Hector Picchetti Jr’s (b. 1929) last visit to the winery in 2006 he was overjoyed with emotion while trying the modern version of the Picchetti Estate exclaiming, “That’s the family vine!”
