VINEYARDS. 90% Dorcich Vineyard, Gilroy and 10% Ventana Vineyard, Arroyo Seco, Monterey County.
WINEMAKING. Crafted from a blend of 90% Dorcich Family Vineyard Syrah in Gilroy and 10% from the historic Ventana Vineyard Syrah, this wine brings together two distinct Central Coast Syrah vineyards. Named after the nearby Ventana Wilderness, the Ventana Vineyard is cooled each afternoon by Pacific breezes flowing through a natural "window" in the Santa Lucia Mountains. This cooler climate vineyard adds a luscious layer of dark fruit balance to the more structured and cocoa dust flavors of the Dorcich Syrah. Aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels (45% new), the result is a beautifully structured Syrah with remarkable depth, balance, and elegance.
TASTING
Aroma: Expressive aromas of ripe blueberry, smoked bacon, tobacco, clove, and dark chocolate.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with layers of dark berry fruit, savory spice, and cocoa wrapped around velvety tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
FOOD PAIRING. Enjoy alongside smoked BBQ pork shoulder, grilled lamb, or a Middle Eastern feast of chicken or beef shawarma, baba ganoush, hummus, za'atar, and warm pita. The wine also pairs beautifully with chicken or pork in a rich mole sauce, where its notes of dark chocolate, clove, and smoky spice echo the flavors of the dish, as well as creamy Dolce Gorgonzola.
