2020 SF Chronicle Wine Competition
Sourced from the fertile soils of Arroyo Seco, our 2017 vintage Syrah is a richly layered expression of this noble Northern Rhône varietal, that sees classic Old World characteristics of leather and cigar tobacco meld into New World flavors of underbrush and forest berry. We took great care to extract its natural, deep color and rich tannins through a slow and delicate fermentation, used a combination of French & American oak barrels (75% new) for aging, and then cellared the bottled wine for a further 16 months before release. It is intensely aromatic, with layer upon layer of peppercorn, sage, licorice, and a hint of black olive to round out wild blueberry and preserved damson plum flavors. Its combination of lush fruit and earthy tones will pair beautifully with all your favorite wintertime dishes - braised and roasted meats, casseroles, stuffed vegetables, and strong cheese such as Camembert. Enjoy now through 2027. Old World meets New!
