Description
VARIETALS. 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.VINEYARDS. The Sangiovese is from Machedo Creek in Morgan Hill, the Merlot is from Cedar Lane in Arroyo Seco, and the Cabernet Sauvignon is from Red Tail in Paso Robles.
WINEMAKING. Each wine varietal was aged separately in oak for 12-months. The Sangiovese contributes the bright red fruit characteristics, while the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon enhance its color, body, complexity, and rich mouthfeel. The wines were then blended together, and put back into premium oak barrels for a total of 24-months of oak aging. The first Picchetti Super Tuscan was produced in 2001, and has since been a favorite amongst the Pantling family.
TASTING
Aroma: Aromas of ripe cherry, fennel, crushed violets, baking spices and lavender.
Palate: Medium-bodied with smooth velvety tannins and notes of herbs de Provence, truffle, vanilla, rose petal, cedar, cranberry, and Italian blood orange.
FOOD PAIRING. Enjoy with your favorite Italian dishes such as risotto alla funghi, margherita pizza, caprese salad, arancini, or steak fiorentina.
