Meticulous use of French oak (45% new barrels) beautifully transforms the intense mountain fruit into a wine with uncommon richness, luxurious texture and a velvety smooth finish.. This extraordinary wine is a joy to taste now, but the savory leathery tannins will further reward those patient enough to cellar it through 2039 or longer. TASTING
Aroma: Fruit-focused aromas of black cherry, vanilla-oak, wild coastal sage, espresso dipped biscotti, dark chocolate and cured leather notes.
Palate: The palate is explosively bright with flourishes of ripe brambly fruit, and umami that provide nuance and continually shifting points of interest, and that quintessential minerality synonymous with the Montebello terroir linger in the background.
FOOD PAIRING. Pair with Kobe-style beef with a peppercorn demi-glace, wild mushroom ragoût, truffled french fries, roasted bone marrow, or a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich on brioche with aged cheddar, mixed greens & truffle aioli.
