2022 Cinsault
2022 Cinsault
Description
VARIETAL. 100% CinsaultVINEYARD. Bechthold Vineyard; Mokelumne River, Clement Hills.
WINEMAKING. The Bechthold Vineyard was planted in 1886 and is home to the world's oldest surviving Cinsault vines. The thick-trunked and gnarly twisted vines resemble short trees rather than grape vines. It was also named "Vineyard of the Year" at the 2014 California State Fair. The grapes are fermented in ¾ ton fermentation bins where the cap is punched down twice daily. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (50% new barrels) for 10-months.
TASTING
Aroma: Ripe strawberry notes with hints of cherry, cranberry, violet, black tea, and a hint of clove.
Palate: A light-bodied wine with low tannins, brimming with mouthwatering flavors of dried cherry, blood orange, and rhubarb.
FOOD PAIRING. Classically paired with escargot. It is also lovely with smoked salmon, roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, herb-crusted rack of lamb, or a charcuterie board.
Area of Origin: Languedoc-Roussillon, Southern France.
