DescriptionThe great showman of Tuscan viticulture, Sangiovese (pronounced san-joh-VAY-zeh) dates back to the Etruscans in the Sixth Century BC, and is the basis for the regal Brunello di Montalcino as well as the humble Chianti. This small production vintage is sourced from a beautiful little vineyard nestled in a secluded valley in the southeastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Its location guarantees an extended growing season, enabling us to let the fruit hang on the vine long into October, thereby taking full advantage of the hot dry days of summer. Aged in French oak (40% new barrels) for 18-months and then bottle-aged for a further two years before release, this vibrant medium-bodied wine exhibits powerful smoke-accented aromas of dried herbs, bay laurel, ripe plums, blood orange and a menagerie of sweet Italian spices. It delivers a suave blend of richness and vivacity, offering juicy fruit flavors of maraschino cherry and orange peel, with savory spice cake notes, complemented by a subtle creamy tannic finish. In perfect cellar conditions, this quintessential Central Italian red will continue to reward through 2025. Enjoy it with spicy pasta dishes, Cioppino, grilled meats and vegetables, pizza or Portuguese-style stuffed peppers.
